Free therapy for college students in Santa Clarita: how it actually works
If you're in college, you've probably heard "just go to your campus counseling center." Those centers do good work, but they can be hard to fit around classes, a job, and a real schedule. A lot of students end up putting it off, and then things pile up.
What many students don't know
Here's what many students don't know. Through a California state-funded program, students 25 and under who are enrolled in a California college may qualify for therapy at no cost to them. No copays. No out-of-pocket expenses. The initiative exists to make it easier for young people to get care, and we're one of only three standalone practices in California in the partnership.
What it looks like
So what does that actually look like? You don't need a parent to sign you up. You can see a therapist in person at our Newhall office or by video. We offer flexible daytime appointments, which matters when your evenings are full. We work with students from College of the Canyons, CalArts, and The Master's University.
A separate option from campus counseling
This is a separate option from your campus counseling center. Some students use us instead. Some use us because the timing works better for them. Either way, the choice is yours.
Getting started
Getting started is simple. Text us at 661-383-2252 and we'll check whether you qualify. You may be asked for your insurance information to register you for the program, but you won't get a bill. Then you can read our therapists' bios, watch their short videos, and pick someone who feels like a good fit. If you're not sure yet, ask for our free 15 minute consultation first.
How to tell whether you might qualify
You may qualify if you are 25 or under and enrolled at a California college. Eligibility depends on the individual situation, so the quickest way to find out is to text us. Have your school name and your age handy. We may ask for insurance information to register you, but eligible students are not billed.
What your first session could look like
The first session is a conversation. You will talk with your therapist about what is on your mind and what you would like to change, and you will get a sense of whether it feels like a good fit. You do not need to prepare anything. If it helps, jot down two or three things you would like to talk about.
Fitting therapy into a packed week
Pick a regular time and treat it like a class you do not skip. Daytime appointments can fit between classes, and video can save you the drive on busy days. If your schedule changes each semester, tell us and we will adjust. A small, steady rhythm beats occasional big efforts.
Using this alongside campus counseling
You do not have to choose. Many students use campus counseling for quick support and an outside therapist for something steadier. If you are not sure what fits, we are happy to talk through it, and the choice is always yours.
Questions students ask
Do my parents need to be involved? No. You can sign yourself up.
Will I really not get a bill? Eligible clients 25 and under are not billed. Insurance information may be requested to register you.
What if I do not qualify? We also work with several insurance plans, and our client care coordinator can talk through options with you before your first session.
Can I try it first? Yes. We offer a free 15 minute consult.
Your therapy is yours. We meet every person with warmth and zero judgment, and we're honest with you about how everything works. That's what we mean when we say we want getting help to be simple, personal, and within reach.
If you ever feel unsafe or in crisis, call or text 988 or go to your nearest emergency room.
